What is this group all about?
We are a not for profit, self-help support group whose primary purpose is for those with dizziness and balance problems to share information with each other about living with our various challenges. By offering personal support, group members can help one another to cope with issues related to their dizziness problems, and to learn about the existence of healthcare providers in the area who may be able to help medically. The group also helps to increase the public's awareness of dizziness and balance disorders.
We serve residents of the Buffalo and Western New York State area, plus neighboring regions, including the Niagara Peninsula of Ontario, Canada. Anyone with a dizziness/vertigo/balance condition is welcome to join us.
Our group is part of a Support Group Network that is affiliated with the national nonprofit organization called the Vestibular Disorders Association (VEDA), which is based in Portland, Oregon.
Our meetings, plus online support
Usually we meet on the 4th Saturday of the month, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, at the Kenmore Branch Library, 160 Delaware Road in Kenmore, NY. Our next meeting is Saturday, June 24. Special guest speaker: Paul Lukasik - who, in addition to his day job, regularly performs community service work through a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit he founded in 2003 where he freely offers introductory classes and other events on mindfulness. Mindfulness is a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening in your life, a way of taking charge of your life, a way of doing something for yourself that no one else can do for you — consciously and systematically working with your own stress, pain, illness, and the challenges and demands of everyday life. Paul's talk will focus on Mindfulness Meditation, a component of mindfulness that may be helpful to group members in regard to dealing with the stresses of living with a chronic, invisible illness.
